My Capstone Experience - Business Project was helping improve social media and marketing for Victory Sports, a youth sports league in Bryan-College Station. I worked with two other students and rotated roles every two weeks. Our first role was social media, which involved posting pictures on Facebook and Instagram and creating clever captions to improve interaction. Next was marketing emails, where we worked closely with their head of marketing to write emails that provoked people to sign up for our soccer season. Finally, we researched how we can spread Victory Sports to other cities in Texas, such as Houston or Dallas.

Our Capstone Experience—Business Project involved hosting an event called the Triple Play Fundraiser Challenge. Students could sign up to play basketball, spike ball, and volleyball. The event also included a silent auction, which ranged from gift cards from restaurants to football signed by players like Dak Prescott.

My Capstone Experience - Business Project required me to research Temple University's Women's Rowing Team and its recent seasons. The media guides here have yet to be updated since 2019, so I was tasked with creating a media guide highlighting each of these lost seasons. This project required me to keep in contact with people on Temple's rowing staff, research the sport of rowing, and understand how to find obscure statistics that were needed for this specific media guide. Overall, I learned a lot from this project, such as information about Temple, the sport of rowing, and even rivers and lakes where rowing events were held. This project also taught me how to manage time and conduct research, which will be very important in my future.

For my Capstone Experience - Business Project, I have been tasked with working with the Thornton-McFerrin Coaching Academy. The Thornton-McFerrin Coaching Academy aims to educate and equip participants with valuable information that will lead to the development of newly formed leaders in the coaching industry. My role in this project has been to develop methods and strategies to improve the coaching academy’s supplemental content, specifically as it relates to its podcast products. Specifically, I have been tasked to seek improvement efforts to create and implement the Coaching Academy’s two podcasts, the 3-Minute Drill and The Handoff. The goal for this Capstone Project was to put together a repeatable, sustainable process to support the continued development and dissemination of each podcast. Throughout my Culminating Experience, I got the opportunity to work with the assistant director of the Thornton-McFerrin Coaching Academy, Ms. Campbell.

- In my experience, you get out what you put in. It is a privilege that these companies give us tangible opportunities to impact their business, so do not let the time you have with them go to waste.

For my Capstone Experience – Business Project, I ran a basketball tournament for Lonestar Basketball. The goal of this tournament was to bring a basketball tournament to the Bryan/College Station area, where we could showcase the talent in the area. We targeted 7th and 8th grade middle school teams, both boys and girls. We did this because there are five middle schools in the Bryan and College Station area, and we knew how hard it was for middle schools to find school tournaments close to where they are. We were successful in getting all five local teams plus Montgomery Junior High. The tournament took place on December 2nd at Legends Event Center.

I will take my Capstone Experience - Business Project with me for the rest of my professional career. I learned to problem-solve, deal with failure and adversity, strengthen my innovativeness, and build on my creativity. For my project, I administered a business social hour for the sport management department. Each student invited one industry professional to the event. I oversaw marketing, planning, and organizing the event. Eighty people attended the event, and the reviews I received from attendees were outstanding.

Over a semester, we worked on planning, brainstorming, and gathering ideas and materials that would contribute to a great event. Teamwork, communication, and ingenuity were all necessary for planning and hosting the final event.

This semester, I worked alongside Alex Gilbert, the Director of Marketing at the Dallas Sports Commission (DSC), to further their contacts with non-profit organizations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I extensively researched 27 organizations that the DSC could partner with. I developed a survey to gain more information on the non-profits and their experience (if any) with the DSC. This survey provided the DSC with more knowledge about the non-profit organizations in the area. Over the last few months, I have learned several valuable lessons, including persistence, time management, and patience. My Capstone Experience - Business Project also allowed me to further my professional skills to be successful in the future.

To the student about to start their Culminating Experience: This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so do not take it for granted and strive to get the most out of this! You can gain many amazing lessons from this, and it is a huge privilege to participate in something like this. Here are a few words of advice and encouragement:
- Manage your time wisely: Dedicate time each week to sit down and work solely on your project.
- Maintain constant contact with your business partner: This shows them that you are dedicated and passionate and keeps them in the loop regarding your progress.
- Persevere: Sometimes you may get stuck and need help figuring out where to go with some situations, or in my case, other companies may not answer you as fast as you would like. Do not be afraid to ask your professor or business partner for help, and do not give up on yourself! You are so capable of being successful. You may have to be more consistent in reaching out or working around your speed bumps. Your professor and partner are there to support you, so reach out to them.

My Culminating Experience was pretty cool. I had the opportunity to work for Victory Sports, a Catholic youth sports league. More specifically, I helped with the upcoming soccer season. I had tasks weekly that were important and time-sensitive for the season. It was fulfilling in the end to see your work pay off and, more importantly, create a good environment for the next generation of athletes.
