My Capstone Experience—Business Project was to help prepare and run a youth soccer league with Victory Sports. My partner and I priced balls, designed jerseys, contacted coaches and sponsors, and helped set up and take down for game days once they started. Overall, I learned so much and had an amazing experience.

I had the opportunity to work as a Ticket and Fan Services Intern for the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2023 Fall semester. My job included assisting the ticket office with emails and phone calls from season ticket holders and general fans while providing excellent customer service. I had the opportunity to work at every Eagles home game, along with every Temple University home football game, and at various other events held at Lincoln Financial Field.

I am participating in the internship culminating experience where I will be collaborating with Rice University Athletics during the upcoming spring semester. In this internship, I will learn how to lead and train athletes from experienced strength and conditioning coaches. Likewise, I will learn how to manage a team's equipment with excellence from equipment managers. As an aspiring sports industry leader, I will gain valuable experience and learn a lot about how to run a football program effectively.

My internship with the University of Alabama Soccer has been extremely rewarding, as I utilized the semester with a different program and gained new perspectives at the collegiate level. I could network with different people in the athletic department and around Tuscaloosa. My primary role as the Director of Soccer Operations intern is a lot of administrative work and player operations. I assisted with coordinating camp logistics, food orders for players and staff, and camp store merchandise.

  • My advice for the culminating experience is to keep all your options open. At the point where you take the culminating experience class, you have to plan and make a schedule that you would be okay with having six months from then when you get assigned your culminating experience. Make sure your class load fits with the new plan and that you’re not saving all your harder classes for the last couple of semesters (especially if you’re on the internship track and need to pass to start your last semester on internship).
  • Lastly, I think having the ability to dabble in each experience makes you versatile and network with other people and different perspectives. Asking your classmates how their projects are going, what study abroad they’re signed up for, etc., unifies the experiences together and will be beneficial down the road.

Working with Dayton this semester has been an excellent experience. As a huge basketball fan, working with a tournament team like Dayton was a great opportunity. From data analysis assignments to researching the history of the First Four, everything my partner and I worked on this semester was valuable. I learned many Excel techniques and writing skills that will improve much of my work in the future. Each assignment we worked on added value to their program while also being rewarding and entertaining to work on. Mr. Preuett, our supervisor, also did a great job giving us assignments and feedback. Overall, the Dayton capstone project was perfect for me, and I couldn't have been more blessed to receive this opportunity.

This Culminating Experience of the Capstone Experience - Business Project was very exciting and honorable for being the first class to execute this project fully. There were some pivoting points in the outcome of our project, but my partner and I adjusted efficiently. The result still benefits the coaching academy by having an Excel sheet of resources that help point out mental health and coaches that we found in our research.

My Culminating Experience was with the Dallas Sports Commission, where I worked alongside the Assistant Director of Marketing, Alex Gilbert. My partner Taylor Foeh and I were tasked with creating a content strategy for the Dallas Sports Commission to launch their TikTok platform this summer. Throughout the semester, we gathered and created content research that would help this organization stay relevant and successful. In addition, we wanted to make sure that each strategy and/or tip that we found would be applicable to any content the Dallas Sports Commission wanted to post.TikTok is a fast-paced and ever-changing platform, so our job was to make sure the Dallas Sports Commission had a strong foundation before launching its profile. In addition to the research we completed with the TikTok platform, we also created a few stagnant graphics and mock videos for practice. Alex Gilbert was very helpful and generous in sharing with Taylor and me some of the behind-the-scenes content that the Dallas Sports Commission used for their social media. For example, she shared b-roll footage and their content posting schedule. We were able to see and learn firsthand what a real sport organization used for their social media side of operations. So, not only did we get to complete the project, but alsolearn more about what goes into posting for an organization on social media.

My culminating experience was one I will never forget! We helped The Basketball Embassy outline and structure the summer camp it runs. They are huge advocates of finding international players to fly to America to learn more about basketball and create relationships with people who share their interests.

My experience during this capstone project was wonderful. I could not have asked for a better experience! Victory Sports is a Catholic youth sports league that utilizes the teachings of the church in the form of physical activity and competition. The hands-on project gave me different perspectives on tasks and experiences I could only have obtained through this program. With the help of two other students, we ran two social media accounts, sent out promotional emails, and researched how to grow the brand of Victory Sports outside of College Station. The staff at Victory Sports made this capstone what it was by being the most helpful and kind people I have met. Their ability to be motivating and understanding during my time was more than I could have asked for.

Words of Wisdom

  • Do not be afraid to ask questions or advice regarding how to do things. The project leaders appreciate it, and it saves you the stress and worry of messing up.
  • SAY YES! Whenever your project leader asks you to do a new task or attend one of their events, make sure to go do it. It shows that you care and are willing to go the extra mile to better yourself, and who knows, you may enjoy it!

During my culminating experience with Victory Sports, we completed three roles: social media, emails, and research. It was a group of three of us, so that we would switch to a new role every two weeks. Social media consisted of posting daily, interacting with users, and growing the account's following. The email role was drafting emails for people to register for a particular sport. The research focused on finding ways to expand Victory Sports around Texas, mainly in Houston. This experience has been amazing, and I am so grateful to be a part of the team.
